LJamshedpur, June 29: In a novel way to help passengers maintain social distancing during the pandemic, South Eastern Railway (SER) has installed a renovated automatic ticket checking and managing access (ATMA) machine at Tatanagar railway station on Monday. Two such machines installed today costs around Rs 1.15 lakh each.
The ATMA screens have been designed in a way to help limit physical contact between passengers and railway employees during the Covid-19 pandemic.
An official of Chakradharpur railway division said two of the machines installed at Tatanagar have been donated by Tata Steel. As

per the plans four other railway stations Chakradharpur, Rourkela, Jharsuguda and Barbil will also get ATMA machines.
The machine is designed in a way that it can scan the body temperature of passengers and can also check whether a passenger is using a mask or not. On getting a green signal about the temperature, a passenger will have to show the ticket which is also scanned without any kind of contact. The HD camera installed at the booth will check the ID proof and ticket of the person.
ATMA will also be able to check if passengers are wearing masks or not. Post the screenings, passengers will have to sanitise their hands, and only then will they be allowed to board the train.
Chakradharpur railway division is also planning to introduce an automated face mask and hand sanitizer dispensing machines at Tatanagar and other important stations under it to help those who may have forgotten to carry sanitizers and masks.
The Tatanagar railway station is the only A1-category railway station under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway ( SER). The footfall at the station is gradually on the rise because of increasing number of trains and also because of the fact that Tatanagar falls on the Howrah-Mumbai main line. Apart from Shramik special trains, five passenger trains, including Puri-New Delhi Rajdhani Express and Howrah-Barbil Jan Shatabdi Expresses pass through Tatanagar and several other stations under the Chakradharpur railway division.

These challenges are like candidates may have to wear face masks, which again pose challenges of tackling impersonation; mass gathering at exam centres may occur; sanitation of exam centres after each shift; number of candidates to be booked in an exam centre may have to be cut down to enable more social distance between two candidates while enforcing the norms required for fair and smooth conduct of examination of this magnitude,” the release mentioned.

returning has to undergo thermal screening. The move will cut down the time being taken for screening each individual passenger as the new device can simultaneously screen upto 30 passengers within its range.“The new hi-tech thermal screening device is such that whenever a passenger enters into the camera focusing range, around 6 meters away from entrance, the camera starts to scan the body temperature of the passengers. The temperature of the passenger is displayed on the LED monitor. The cameras installed at both stations are able to scan and record the temperature of the passengers standing in two different lines simultaneously. The data stored can also be retrieved, if needed. The vigil has been stepped up at Tatanagar Railway Station. All the passengers are undergoing thermal screening through hand-held devices, and have to fill up their travel history and contact details at the Tatanagar Station.Tatanagar railway authorities have also appealed to the passengers to avoid non-essential train journeys and to ensure that they do not have running fever while they are commencing the journey. If a passenger feels that he or she is having fever, the railway staff can be contacted for medical attention and further assistance. The Tatanagar railway station is the only A1-category railway station under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway ( SER). The footfall at the station is gradually on the rise because of an increasing number of special trains and also because of the fact that Tatanagar falls on the Howrah-Mumbai main line.

and business establishments set up on the railway land in Tinplate along the Golmuri-Telco Road.
Assistant engineer-I, Tatanagar railway, Sanjay Kumar, confirmed a fresh survey of the establishments at Tinplate.
He said they started the survey after getting instructions from Chakradharpur railway division.
“Once the survey of the encroached land at Tinplate is done, we will send the report to the divisional railway manager, Chakradharpur. The survey will help start an anti-encroachment drive in the locality,” said Sanjay.
Officials of the railway engineering division and a large number of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel where at the site of the survey.
Tatanagar RPF inspector M.K. Sahoo said: “We had to give company to the railway officials as there were chances of resistance from people who have settled down on the railway land.”
A year ago, the railways had served notices to over 100 house owners, who have settled down on the land, asking them why the railways shouldn’t ask them to vacate the land.
A section of the slum-dwellers had initially submitted their replies to the railways, but later they approached the local administration and turned hostile, declaring they would not part with their houses.
Now, after divisional railway manager Pradeep Kumar Sahoo joined the Chakradharpur division in January, he took a fresh initiative to remove the encroachment from the land and instructed the engineering division to carry it out.

second entry at the Burmamines end currently witnesses a footfall of around 1,000 passengers daily. Currently, passengers entering the station from the Burmamines side are required to walk through a ramp constructed along the road overbridge which leads them to platform number 1. After getting into the platform (read No. 1) they move to different platforms for catching trains of their destinations. Once the second footbridge is made operational, passengers can directly move to different platforms after entering the station from the Burmamines end,” explained Balmuchu.
The second entrance helps passengers coming from areas like Sakchi, Golmuri, Baridih, Agrico and Telco.
