Three rolling stock manufacturers have submitted tenders (bids) to supply and maintain 210 standard gauge coaches for the under construction 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) line after officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) opened tenders on Thursday afternoon to reveal the list of bidders.
Scope: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Testing, Commissioning and Comprehensive Maintenance of RRTS and MRTS Trainsets, and Depot Machinery & Plants for Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut Project. Tender Notice: DM/RS/COR-OF/69
Completion Period of Work: 243 weeks (excluding Maintenance Period) + 15 Years for

Maintenance
Bidders:
• Alstom Transport India Ltd. – bid submitted March 10• Bombardier Transport India Pvt. Ltd. – bid submitted March 11• CAF India Private Ltd. – bid submitted March 11
Tenders for this contract were invited in August 2019 with an original submission date of November 9, 2019. This date was pushed back to March 12 as the bidders needed additional time.
All three firms’ bids have been officially admitted by NCRTC’s procurement team and have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely the supplier of train-sets for this line.
In February 2020, Alstom announced its plan to acquire Bombardier’s rail business for as much as 6.2 billion euros ($6.7 billion), so this bidding battle is essentially between Alstom and CAF.
Although this line’s development is being financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the rolling stock’s procurement is being funded entirely through state (Delhi & Uttar Pradesh) and central government funds. The bidding rules also contain a local production clause to support the government’s Make in India initiative.
The system’s aerodynamic trains will be lightweight and have a stainless steel / aluminium body. They’ll have a design speed of 180 kmph, operational speed of 160 kmph and average speed would be 100 kmph. Through this, the journey between Delhi and Modipuram, north of Meerut, will be cut down to an hour (62 minutes advertised) from the current 3-4 hour time it takes by National Highway 34.
Out of the 210 coaches being procured, 180 coaches (30 train-sets of 6 coaches) will be used for long-distance end-to-end services from Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan Station to Modipuram Station – view route map. The rest 30 coaches will run as 10 trains in a configuration of 3 cars for local metro services in Meerut, with special metro-only stations roughly every kilometer or so at Partapur, Rithani, Brahmapuri, Meerut Central, Bhaisali, MES Colony, Daurli, Meerut North and Modipuram.
Each express RRTS train will consist of one business class coach which will be accessible through a special lounge on the platform-level of certain stations. Coaches will be 22 m long x 3.20 m wide, and are planned to have to have transverse (latitudinal) seats, unlike most metro trains with longitudinal seating, for passenger comfort over long distances.

This is wonderful news.
I guess CAF will have to open a plant in India if they qualify.
I wonder why CRRC didn’t bid for this tender. The total amount of the tender (capital only and not including maintenance) will easily be around ₹2500 crore.
If Bombardier wins, their Salvi plant will have something to build.
True sir, CRRC manufacture train coaches for less price and they have more experience
BEML and others are again missing…why??
BEML doesn’t have designs/capability to build a SHSR train that can do a top Speed of 160 kmph. In fact, no Indian company does.
The closest thing we have that’s anywhere close to the requirements of the tender is Train 18 but that would require a major redesign, if it’s production ever restarts.

Indian Railways New Delhi and Mumbai railway stations to be world-class soon! With an aim to transform passenger experience at Indian Railways stations, Piyush Goyal-led Railway Ministry is redeveloping several stations across the network. In this regard, the Railway Board will be inviting bids in the month of April 2020 for redeveloping the New Delhi railway station and Mumbai station, according to officials quoted in a recent PTI report. VK Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board was recently speaking at the 7th PHD Global Rail Convention 2020 where he was

quoted saying that the system of modernisation will give an integrated approach for enhancing the capacity of the Indian Railways ecosystem, through multi-tracking railway connectivity across the country.
Financial Express Online had earlier reported that the New Delhi railway station has been planned to be revamped at a cost of Rs 6,500 crore. The initial bids for the redevelopment project of the station will be invited in a few months. Under the proposed plan for the redevelopment of the station, access roads will be constructed, similar to airports. The first phase of the revamp includes the development of 110 acres of land. Other facilities of the station after redevelopment includes new elevated concourse, revamp of 16 platforms and redevelopment of existing station building.
Meanwhile, Yadav was quoted in the report saying that under the station redevelopment plan, the target is to redevelop the railway stations without investing any money from government sources. The stations are being developed to world-class standards and a few bids have been finalised. The bids for the New Delhi and Mumbai railway stations will be invited by the month of April 2020. While specifically talking about the roadmap for the redevelopment of railway stations, the Chairman added that in order to achieve the set target, the prioritisation of projects is the key element which will be fulfilled by the year 2022-2023.
Faggan Singh Kulaste, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Steel was quoted saying that Indian Railways network has played an important role in enhancing the economic and trade growth across the country. He added that Indian Railways is the second largest transportation network in the world and the sector is progressing towards further development and growth.
As part of the Railway Ministry’s plan of redeveloping stations to airport-like world class standards, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) has been entrusted with the specific task. The IRSDC or the Indian Railways Station Development Corporation is the SPV responsible for redeveloping stations and in this regard, several stations are undergoing major infrastructural changes. Some of these stations are also being slated to be redeveloped with private sector participation. The Habibganj and Gandhinagar stations will be very first Indian Railways stations having world-class airport like facilities for passengers.
