State govt asks Railway board to revoke decision to shift NL Express to Ledo
Taking cognizance of the report published in Nagaland Post on December 17, that the Northeast Railway Frontier (NFR) has decided to shift the starting/terminating point of Nagaland Express from Dimapur to Ledo (Upper Assam), the State government has written a letter to the CEO and Chairman of Railway Board, Ministry of Railways to revoke the decision.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, State chief secretary J. Alam informed that a letter was immediately initiated after the matter came to the government’s

notice on December 18, 2020.
Alam said the letter was under the consideration of the Railway Board adding that status quo should be maintained by restoring the terminating/starting point of Nagaland Express at its original starting and stoppage point at Dimapur.
The chief secretary said the state has given reasons for its objection in the letter and though no official response was received, yet he was in touch with the NF railway authorities.
As per the letter written by the chief secretary on December 18, the State regretted the decision of the NFR to extend Nagaland Express to Ledo which was 157 kms away from Dimapur station. The letter stated that the decision to take away Nagaland Express from Dimapur to Ledo would invite inconvenience to travellers since the station was the only rail link for Nagaland which is a landlocked hill state with poor connectivity.
In the letter, the state government also reminded that considering the poor railway connectivity and acknowledging Dimapur as the second highest revenue earning station, NFR introduced Nagaland Express in 2011 to mitigate the travelling plight of the people of the state.
Further, it reminded that train travellers from Nagaland have immensely benefitted by services of Nagaland Express which departs at 6 a.m. from Dimapur station and reaches Guwahati/Khamakhya at 11.45 a.m.
Alam asserted that the starting/terminating point Nagaland Express at Dimapur greatly eased the problems of train travellers form Nagaland who travel to Guwahati for official, medical or business purposes and return the same day without halting at Guwahati. In addition, he said passengers flying by air also take advantage of the train to catch a connecting flight from Guwahati airport.
Considering all these, the chief secretary, in his letter, urged upon the Railway Board to revoke the decision of the NFR to make Ledo as terminating/starting point of Nagaland Express.
It may also be recalled that the report that was published in Nagaland Post on December 17,2020 had also attracted the attention of Dimapur Naga Student’s Union.
The Union has asked the NFR authorities to restore the original schedule failing which, it threatened to block all railways passing through Nagaland unless NFR revokes its decision.
