Kannur: Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train service to Kannur will commence from March 16 onwards. Though MEMU service Shoranur-Mangaluru route is unlikely to be realised, it will be available from Shoranur to Kannur.
There will be two services on the route. One service (06023) will start from Shoranur at 4.30 am and reach Kannur by 9.10 am. The train (06024) will start from Kannur at 5.20 pm and reach Shoranur by 10.55 pm.
This schedule will benefit many regular passengers. The new MEMU service will be available on all days except Sunday....

Electric trains started service from Shoranur to Mangaluru in May 2017. The Railway granted permission for MEMU service in Kerala following intense pressure. The Southern Railway was allotted 13-bogies.
The Railway divisions have been directed to conduct services in a way that make available MEMU rakes. One of them is starting service from March 16. However, passengers are also protesting for not allotting the Mangaluru-Kannur MEMU service.
Mathrubhumi had reported the struggles of passengers from Malabar region for not having MEMU services. Various passenger associations demanded that the MEMU service should be extended to Mangaluru to resolve their problems.
