gauge railway was used for the construction of Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route and New Delhi-Meerut rapid rail system. Following these successful constructions, the government has decided to use standard gauge for Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod rail corridor.
Train coaches and engines to operate on these tracks will be imported. Bullet trains which run at 300 km per hour will only take service through standard gauge railway tracks.
Compared to other tracks, standard gauge railway tracks will not have signal posts. Replacing the signal posts, the loco pilot will have an alert system inside the engine cabin.
Kerala Rail Development Corporation Managaing Director V Ajith Kumar stated that Standard gauge railway tracks have the best quality.
“Compared to broad gauge, trains will not have much jerking. As it is narrow, only less land will be used for track work,” he added.
