the official vehicle of Lord Vishnu. It is one of the three most popular stone chariots in India. Other two are in Konark in Odisha and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. The Stone Chariot was built in the 16th century by the orders of King Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara Empire. The emperor is said to have been impressed by the Sun Temple of Konark during the war with Kalinga and wanted to recreate a similar one in Hampi.
Replicating the marvel, the Railways and Tourism departments have undertaken the renovation of the railway station on the lines of the chariot.
Lakhs of tourists from all overthe world visit Hampi to see magnificent stone architecture.The major attraction of Hampi is Stone Chariot of Virupaksha temple.
This chariot-like railway station is the first-of-its-kind in the country attracting curious visitors.
The workers are giving final touches to the station. The main entrance of the station and stone pillars are impeccable imitation of the architecture of Hampi.
The Railways has also introduced Hampi Express for tourists from North India. The department also runs a Golden Chariot to Hampi for the benefit of tourists. The Railways and Tourism department have spent Rs 4 crore each on the renovation of the Hosapete railway station.
Hosapete is one of the major stations and junction of Hubballi South West Railway division. The major tourist attractions in Hampi are Vijaya Vitala temple, Rock Chariot, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Zoological Park,Daroji sloth bear sanctuary.
Hosapete is 13 km from Hampi. Tourists from other States coming to Hampi are mesmerised by the Stone Chariot-like railway station.

The Indian Railways cancelled around 222 trains on Saturday, the IRCTC website showed, however, it mentioned no reason for cancellation of trains. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) also said that around 54 trains were partially cancelled on Saturday. The list of cancelled trains includes Nokaro STL City, Ratnagiri-Madgaon, HDB-NJP passenger special train, among others. The cancelled trains were scheduled to travel between Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, and Bihar. South Western Railway has embarked o­n a mission to fast track all o­ngoing infrastructure & capacity enhancement projects with an objective to improve mobility, capacity and safety. In the present Financial Year till date 303 RKM have been electrified and 74 KM tracks doubled and 22 KM new-line commissioned. In the next few days before the end of the present Financial Year (end of March 2022) 87 KM doubling and 162 RKM electrification is targeted to be completed over the zone.

It is to be noted that since more than a decade the line capacity between Yelahanka to Penukonda was severely constrained leading to limitations in mobility. In order to enhance the line capacity in this section the doubling work of the section was sanctioned in 2015-16. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 1104 crores and the project is fully financed by Ministry of Railways. Already 82 KM of the route has been commissioned with double line, the latest section commissioned being Devarapalli to Hindupur (10.7 KM) o­n 15.12.2021. *The balance stretch between Hindupur (37 KM) is targeted to be commissioned by March 2022*

     In this connection Engineering works (Non-Interlocking working) are being undertaken from 4:20 pm of today (21.03.2022) till 29.03.2022 anddoubling will be commissioned phase by phase between Penukonda to Hindupur. During this period a few trains as detailed below will be cancelled/partially cancelled/diverted in view of inevitable safety/operational concerns. Due care has been taken to divert trains o­n alternative routes, as per operational feasibility.

        Addressing media persons today, Shri Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger-Services), stated that to minimise the inconvenience to the public, SMS messages have been sent to all passengers who had booked tickets o­n the trains duly indicating the status of cancellation/partial cancellation & diversion. Also, constant announcements at en route stations are being ensured to inform the passengers. Further, additional catering facilities will be provided o­n the trains running o­n diverted route to meet the needs of the passengers, and refund of the ticket fare for fully cancelled & partially cancelled trains as per extant rules will be ensured.

          Shri Amandeep Kapoor, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru Division said that all out efforts are being made by the Division to ensure the timely completion of the doubling work. He mentioned that Divisional Railway Manager Shri Shyam Singh has been camping at the site, to monitor and ensure the work is executed smoothly duly observing all safety protocols. He stated that in the Bengaluru Train Control Office, a Gazetted Officer will be monitoring the movement of trains round the clock. He solicited cooperation from the railway passengers during this time.

We humbly solicit the cooperation of public during this temporary phase, wherein works are undertaken to improve the railway infrastructure.

The following trains will be cancelled/partially cancelled/diverted due to the doubling work between Hindupur – Penukonda in Yelahanka – Penukonda section from 21.03.2022 to 29.03.2022 as per the details mentioned below:-

4.  Train No.12736 Yesvantpur - Secunderabad Garibrath Express commencing journey from Yesvantpur o­n 24.03.2022, 26.03.2022 & 28.03.2022 will be cancelled.

5. Train No. 11301 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus - KSR Bengaluru Udyan Daily Express commencing journey from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus from 22.03.2022 to 28.03.2022 will be cancelled.

the return direction, Naganahalli–KSR Bengaluru MEMU (train no. 06565) special will depart from Naganahalli at 2.05 pm and reach KSR Bengaluru at 5.15 pm.
The train will have stoppages at Krishnadevaraya Halt, Nayandahalli, Gnanabharathi Halt, Kengeri, Hejjala, Bidadi, Ketohalli Halt, Ramanagaram, Channapatna, Settyhalli, Nidaghatta H, Maddur, Hanakere, Mandya, Yeliyur, Byadarahalli, Chandragirikoppal Halt, Pandavapura and Srirangapatna in both directions. The special train will ply till June 23.
The South Western Railway has withheld the cancellation of the KSR Bengaluru–Arsikere passenger train (no. 56223/56224). The train will run on all days.
However, the Mysuru-Chennai Express (train no. 22681) on June 19 and Chennai–Mysuru Express (train no. 22682) on June 20 stand cancelled. The Hubballi–Mysuru Hampi Express (train no. 16591) will terminate at Pandavapura instead of Mysuru from June 17 to 22 and Mysuru–Sholapur Express (train no. 16535) will start from Pandavapura, instead of Mysuru from June 18 to 23.
