Tip is for: Unreserved passengers and ladies especially those with kids.

Siddhaganga is one of the most popular trains towards Hubballi. Getting a seat in this train at SBC (Majestic) itself is very tough. The space is even less with all coaches being the seating type (3+3) unlike the long seats with luggage racks at top for seating as seen in long distance trains.
-
So here is what you do. Go to Yeshvantpur YPR station at around 11 AM, buy 2 tickets: 1 from YPR to SBC costing some 10rs and another from SBC to where ever you want to go (Superfast ticket). Go to PF no. 3 and wait for the Shivamogga ICE. Shivamogga train has rake (coach) sharing with Siddhaganga SF train. When that train comes (usually late at 12), board one of the GEN coaches and when SBC comes take over the seat from whoever alights. Many come to YPR to board the SMET train knowing this rake sharing, so look around and get the seat at SBC as fast as possible. Also try for a seat that is closer to the LCD TVs :)

For ladies:
- You can either go to YPR as mentioned above or if you can't then at SBC PF 9, walk to the extreme end towards Mysuru side. When the train comes people will fight to get into the GEN coaches. Women and those with kids can't get into GEN coaches. At that time try to board the last coach called SLR - a combined coach for guard, physically challenged people and for ladies. The board indicating that it is for ladies is not displayed but it is understood it is for them. Even if men try to enter you can call RPF for help.
- There are 2 SLR coaches. Many think that only the front one is for ladies and never realise that at the rear too one is present. Usually very few board the rear SLR. Only when people start fighting for seats do the RPF come and send women to the rear SLR.

Good info thanks so rear SLR is assumed for ladies even if not mentioned ?
Example once I went to see of my elder sister to UBL SC exp at Gadag Junction so when my sister tried to alight rear one but it was front from UBL to GDG after GDG LR happens and it became rear so in that lot of gents sat we inform RPF but he told go to front SLR their it is ladies reserved coach..
Extremely clean coaches. Toilets are maintained impeccably. Liquid soap is available in all toilets. Housekeeping is done. After breakfast they personally come and collect the waste. One of the best trains in cleanliness. Though toilets don't have toilet sprinkler Owing to old manufactured GR coaches it's fine.

If wish to travel from mumbai to delhi, then you have book well 1 month in advance specially in sleeper. Its always full for mumbai to delhi quota as along with NZM, meerut and SRE also come in same quota.
Take RLWL less than 40. Above it in sleeper , its very tough to confirm.
If you dont get tickets, then there is three ways by which still you can travel from mumbai to delhi in this train:
1. Check BCT to JRC as its in GNWL ASR end to end quota, which majority of times remains vacant. If getting GNWL in SL till 60-70, take it. Confirmation has bright chances.
2. Check ST/BRC to NZM, sometimes this quota also remains vacant (personal experience) in SL, take it if don't wish to waste money. Reach ST by any earlier train and catch this.
3. Last option keep for premium tatkal. This is sure that you will get confirmed seat.
But during diwali and holi rush, don't wait and book 120 days arp. This train is a high demand train throughout 365 days but during diwali & holi, it gets filled up on the 1st day itself.

very useful thanks for sharing :)
I dont know if it is feasible. If one has the budget one maybe able to buy reserved tickets, one for Mumbai-Surat (or BRC) and then ST (or BRC)-NDLS on the same train if available
Bedding will be provided in this train on payment of Rs 25. You can either pay during booking or can pay onspot. However in my opinion, payment during booking is better option.
Railway Restaurant (रेलवे भोजनालय) available on Platform 1 of Jodhpur Junction.Contact: 7222872223 , 7222872224 for food in train.
