Suburban services of the Western Railway (WR) in Mumbai resumed fully as water on the tracks receded, it said on Wednesday evening as the city grappled with heavy overnight rains.
However, the Central Railway's (CR) suburban services had not resumed till late in the evening, railway authorities said.
With waterlogged tracks, suburban services of both Central Railway and Western Railway were suspended early Wednesday morning.

Thakur, chief public relations officer, WR, said its suburban special services were fully restored between Churchgate and Bandra around 5pm.
The first slow corridor train from Churchgate to Virar departed at 4 pm, while the first slow train from Bandra to Churchgate started at 4.55 pm, he said.
"Now WR's special suburban services arerunning on all four lines," Thakur said.
Earlier in the day, the WR had resumed suburban services on the fast corridor, but slow corridor services between Churchgate-Bandra remained suspended due to inundated tracks.
Central Railway's suburban services were still suspended between CSMT-Dadar and CSMT-Vashi due to waterlogging between Curry Road and Parel stations on main line and Wadala and Chunabhatti stations on the Harbour line, respectively, it said.
Shivaji Sutar, chief public relations officer of CR, said suburban services between Dadar-Thane were resumed after water on the tracks in Dadar-Kurla section receded around 6 pm.
"Suburban tracks of the main line and harbour are still submerged above the danger level at certain locations and due to continued rain coupled with high tide in the evening, the water from the tracks hasn't receded to safe levels," he said.
At some locations, there was about 11 to 29 inches of water above the track level, the CR spokesperson said.
Presently CR and WR are operating over 850 special suburban services only for essential services employees in view of the coronavirus threat.
Common people are dependent on the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses, but the rains crippled the civic bus service too on Wednesday.
The BEST spokesperson said the buses on 100 routes were diverted via alternative routes at 32 locations.
Thirty buses were stuck in waterlogged streets and 23 of them were attended by its mechanics by 3 pm. Mechanics could not reach the other seven buses, he said.
In all, BEST operated 2,375 buses on Wednesday, he said.

Will be built at railway crossing; Western Railway says rubberised road will help ease traffic and improve road quality at level crossingsA rubberised road at a level crossing in Nagpur Western Railway's Mumbai division is getting its first rubberised roads at level crossings and it is expected to be built in Virar. This may not just give a comfortable ride to motorists, but also lead to easier maintenance and faster dispersal of road traffic along the stretch. "The regular roads along the level crossings are usually prone to potholes, which slows down the traffic and eventually leads to delay in closing time of the level crossing gate. Also, rail tracks at level crossings need additional maintenance. A rubber road will make maintenance easier and give a comfortable ride to motorists," a senior divisional official said. Flexible, skid resistant He said these roads...

will be made of multiple sets of rubber pads measuring 1.2 metre each. Each set consists of two rubber pads placed inside and two outside of the running rail. As per the government guidelines, the rubberised roads are expected to be flexible enough to absorb the shocks of rail as well as road vehicles, should be fire and skid resistant, should not crack/splinter/crumble and be tolerant of temperature variations and possess high electrical resistivity. Mumbai: Wheel of double decker bus plying from Kurla to Andheri comes off Currently, the project is being initiated near Valsad and Vapi, and subsequently, it will be taken up near Virar on the Mumbai suburban section, said WR chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur. Former member of WR Zonal Users' Consultative Committee Shailesh Goyal welcomed said it will be a boon for motorists as well as railways. "Rubberised roads will make journey at level crossings easier, and should be adopted across Indian Railways." More trains from Sept 21 To meet the rising demand, the Ministry of Railways has decided to run 20 pairs of 'Clone' special trains from September 21, including one from Bandra to Amritsar. These Clone trains, being run in addition to the existing special trains, will run on notified timings and be fully reserved. The stoppages shall be limited to operational halts, and the advanced reservation period will be 10 days.

Office goers mobbed Virar railway station on Monday morning demanding to be allowed to travel on local trains. Citizens blamed the Maharashtra government for imbalance as the recent Unlock 4.0 guidelines allowed more people in offices but did not provide enough public transport facilities for daily commute.
This is the second such incident in the suburbs in the past two days and third in two months when Nalasopara station saw a rail roko on July 22.
Sources said that 200-300 angry commuters, mostly office goers, staged a protest outside Virar railway station. The

protest led to traffic jams during the morning rush hour.
On Monday, there was heavy traffic on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway for him to reach office due to which buses could not reach in time at the Virar bus depot leading to the protest.
A GRP official said that passengers from the Virar ST bus stand gathered near the station around 9.45 am and protested for 15-20 minutes.
A consolidated team of GRP, Railway Protection Force, Maharashtra Security Force and the city police did not allow passengers to enter the station.
Previous Incidents
On Saturday night, some passengers tried to enter Borivli station at around 10:15 pm due to unavailability of buses outside the station. An official said that initially there were just four women GRP constables to stop the mob, reinforcements and the city police joined by 10:30 pm.
By 10:45 pm, additional buses were arranged and the mob dispersed. The ticket checking staff at the station alerted senior officials and the divisional railway manager, who averted the crisis in time. Passengers complained that they had been waiting all evening for buses.
On July 22, passengers from the nearby state transport bus stand staged a rail roko at Nalasopara, demanding permission to travel.
"After the government allowed 30 per cent staff in offices, our employers have started calling us to work. Locals are shut, roads are bad and it takes ages to reach destinations. No salaries are being given because of lack of attendance. Does the government understand the situation? What are we to do?" commuter Sachin Gavhate said.
Another commuter Ninad Patil said organisations are terminating employees if they don't report to work. People from Vasai-Virar have no option but to take the risk and travel.
Another commuter Akshat said, "Those who understand Mumbai well will agree that the lower middle class stays at Kalyan-Dombivli on Central Line and Nalasopara-Virar on the Western Line. Expecting people to travel from these places to Fort/Churchgate by road is evil and criminal."
