BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has decided to add four more coaches in mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) trains to accommodate more passengers. Now these trains have 12 coaches. Initially, the ECoR will add four more coaches in 68422/68421 Puri-Angul MEMU train. After augmentation of these coaches, it will be the longest MEMU train in the state. It will start running from Puri on February 11 and from Angul on the very next day. Official sources said the railway zone will augment four coaches in other MEMU trains in phased manner. It has around eight MEMU rakes. The ECoR has also decided to run MEMU train between Keonjhargarh and Bhubaneswar from February 12. It will replace earlier conventional coaches of 58425/58426 Kendujhargarh-Bhubaneswar Passenger train. This train will run as 68425/68426 Kendujhargarh-Bhubaneswar MEMU from both the directions with effect from February 12 from Bhubaneswar and February 13 from Kendujhargarh. The timings and...

stoppages for this train between Kendujhargarh and Bhubaneswar will same as per the earlier passenger train, ECoR official sources said.Railways run these MEMU trains at suburban and rural areas. It is different from conventional mainline trains. These trains have engines at both ends and run by alternating current (AC) drawn from overhead electric cables.Conventional mainline trains take time in the process of halting and leaving a station. But the MEMU take comparatively less time to halt and leave the station because of its latest technology. These trains have a potential for average speed increment up to 20 km per hour in comparison to the conventional passenger trains, said the officer.

late, been witnessing disruption in coal production and despatches. In July this year, a strata failure at Bharatpur open pit coal mine triggered a landslide, causing casualties of coal workers. The mishap sparked outrage among workers, paralysing coal production and supplies for two weeks. Wary of accidents at coal mines, the minister announced 300 per cent hike in ex-gratia amount for fatal coal mine accidents from Rs five lakh to Rs 15 lakh. This measure is expected to cover 0.35 million mine workers of CIL. “I announce enhancement in ex-gratia from Rs five lakh to Rs 15 lakh for the coal workers, both permanent as well as the contractors, in case of fatal mine accident. The government of India is committed to uplift the standard of living of common man and we are steadily working to create more jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities for the youths”, Joshi said. He also announced that MCL which has given over 16,000 permanent jobs in lieu of land since its inception, will offer employment to more than 4000 land oustees in Odisha by 2024-25. CIL chairman A K Jha and MCL's chairman & managing director B N Shukla were present on the occasion. MCL is the second largest subsidiary of CIL, contributing about 25 per cent to its total production. MCL exited 2018-19 with production of 144 million tonnes (mt). Inn FY20, MCL eyes coal output of 160 mt out of CIL's projected 660 mt.

Rourkela: Alleging inordinate delay in the completion of the much-awaited Bimlagarh-Talcher broad gauge railway line project, people of Sundergarh district today staged protest at Bimlagarh and Rourkela railway stations.
Hundreds of people took out a rally on Tuesday from Bisra chhak to the Rourkela railway station. They alleged that the project is moving at a snail’s pace due to sheer apathy of State government and the Centre.
“Both the Centre and the State government are delaying the railway line project. Land acquisition for the project is yet to be completed. We demand speedy

completion of the project,” said a local.

Another protesting local alleged that the Odisha government is ‘completely responsible for the delay as it has failed to acquire the required land for the project’ due to which the railway is facing difficulties in moving ahead with the project.
As per reports, of the total requirement of 2,088 (approx) acre land for the railway line project, only 466 (approx) acre have been acquired. Moreover, of the 289 km project, works on only 39 km have been completed so far.
The estimated cost of the project is about Rs 1,928 crore. With a route length of 149 km, the project envisages to reduce the distance between Rourkela and Bhubaneswar by about 347 km against the present distance of 462 km.

ROURKELA: Even as forest land diversion and land acquisition have emerged as major stumbling blocks in implementation of Bimlagarh-Talcher new rail line, the Forest and Environment department of Odisha has initiated efforts for Stage-II final clearance of 244.623 hectare forest land for the project.ALSO
Earlier, acting on the second phase of forest land diversion for the project, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) on July 1 had issued in-principle approval order for Stage-1 clearance of 244.623 hectare with certain conditions.
In a subsequent development, the special secretary of the

Forest and Environment department, on July 6, had shot off a letter to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) asking him to consider initiating efforts for Stage-II final clearance for which the East Coast Railway (ECoR) will be required to meet 20 additional conditions.
Incidentally, the User Agency will have to meet all conditions prescribed for Stage -I and II forest clearances. The letter further said trees shall be felled where it is absolutely essential with prior permission from Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) concerned and the user agency would be required to take up avenue plantation along the track and implement Site Specific Wildlife Plan. Detailed compliance of all conditions imposed by MoEF&CC and the state government should be meticulously scrutinised by the Additional PCCF (Forest Diversion) and Nodal Officer and report submitted for considering final clearance order by MoEF&CC.
The letter also instructed the DFOs concerned to place demand for compensatory levies, adding that the DFOs of Rourkela, Bonai, Deogarh and Angul, in strict compliance with guidelines, may allow the user agency to take up project activities for a period of one year pending Stage-II forest clearance.According to  sources in ECoR, till July 17, of the total requirement of 2,088.77 hectare of private, government and forest land, only 466.795 hectare has been acquired.
Of a total of 1,002.61 hectare of private land, 704.15 hectare remains to be acquired, while of total 422.38 hectare of government land, 312.96 hectare remains to be alienated. Similarly, in case of forest land, a total of 663.78 hectare has been earmarked for diversion and only 59.31 hectare has been diverted.
