The 6.46-km line from Mysore Road to Kengeri is set to be the second extension under Phase 2 to begin operations
In an indication that the BMRCL is likely to meet its June deadline for commissioning the extended metro line from Mysore Road to Kengeri, officials commenced running trains at slow speed to measure various parameters.

the public in January.
“The slow running of a train is conducted to check basic parameters like the track structure, gap between the platform and the train as well as overall coordination of signalling and telecommunication systems. This is essential before we take up trial runs,” BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer B L Yashavanth Chavan said.
The trial runs, which includes speed test, oscillation test and others are expected to be conducted in the latter part of the week, following which an external agency will certify the systems.
The BMRCL is expected to approach the Commissioner of Rail Safety for inspection of the line by the end of May.

BENGALURU: The city’s much-awaited suburban rail project seems to be on the right track. Prime Minister
is likely to lay the foundation stone next month.
The Rs 15,657-crore project was cleared by the Centre in October 2020 but no formal announcement was made due to the model code of conduct. “We have sought a date from the Prime Minister’s Office for laying the foundation stone but haven’t received any confirmation till now,” said a source.
Officials

say the state government wants the foundation stone to be laid before the BBMP elections and also to operationalise a small section of one of the four corridors before the 2023 assembly polls.
Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Enterprises (K-RIDE), a joint venture between the railway ministry and the state government, is supposed to execute the project.
K-RIDE has recruited around 60 staffers so far and is planning to hire more in the next few months.
The government has appointed
(KIADB) as the nodal agency to acquire required land for the project. The 148km project will comprise four corridors: KSR Bengaluru City-Yelahanka-Devanahalli (41km), Byappanahalli-Yeshwantpur-Chikkabanavara (25km), Kengeri-Cantonment-Whitefield (35km) and Heelalige-Yelahanka-Rajanukunte (46km). Work on Byappanahalli-Yeshwantpur-Chikkabanavara and Heelalige-Yelahanka-Rajanukunte is likely to be taken up first.
An official said they are planning to float a tender for ‘station planning’ of 57 stations. “We have already floated tenders for land and geo-technical surveys. Notification for land acquisition will be issued soon. The idea of station planning involves designing stations as commercial hubs and improving integration of suburban rail with other modes. Tenders for civil work will be called by March. The project will be expedited once the PM lays the foundation stone,” said an official.
Inspired by Metro man E Sreedharan’s digital countdown clock in Metro offices, K-RIDE will install one to track the number of days left for the deadline. “We are planning to set up a countdown clock to remind officials to speed up work. We don’t have any competition with BMRCL but hope to make it better than Metro,” he said.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety gave clearance for the project two months ago while stipulating more than 37 conditions
Train operations on the 6.29-km metro line between Yelachenahalli and Anjanapura will likely commence from January 15 with the inauguration scheduled a day before.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director Ajay Seth said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa will inaugurate the line at Konanakunte cross station on January 14.

chief minister and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs are scheduled to inaugurate the line at 4.30 pm on January 14. Public service is likely to be introduced from the 15th," he said.
While Hardeep Singh Puri, the central official, will take part through video conference, the chief minister will join in person at Konanakunte Cross station.
The extended line Namma Metro Reach 3, with stations at Konanakunte Cross, Doddakallasandra, Vajrahalli, Thalaghattapura and Anjanapura, will connect the far end of the southeastern part of the city with the northern tip. It is the first of the six projects taken up under Phase 2 to be commissioned after multiple delays. The Commissioner of Railway Safety gave clearance for the project two months ago while stipulating more than 37 conditions.
Train to Kengeri in June
Meanwhile, Ajay Seth said the BMRCL hopes to commence train operations on the Reach 2 extension from Mysore Road to Kengeri by June. "The Purple Line will have 7.5 km extension up to Kengeri by May or June," he said.
The BMRCL is set to receive seven more train sets between April and June. Asked about possible requirement of additional trains on the Green Line, Seth said, "The train sets will be deployed as needed.
These two extensions can be managed with the existing 50 sets at 5 minute intervals during the peak period. More trains will be needed only when we commence Whitefield line, which is a bit away."
To a question, the managing director said no decision has been taken on extending the train operations beyond 9 pm.
