The much awaited Haridaspur-Paradeep Railway Line work is almost complete. Trial runs of goods trains were started on 31.07.2020.
East Coast Railway appreciates the aspirations of the people of the area in and around this line for having passenger train services.
ECoR appeals to you that trial runs of goods trains are necessary for the line to settle for safe train running.
ECoR wants

to inform the public that for passenger train running many other safety works and passenger facilities are essential to be done. Trial runs of goods trains is a pre-step to culminate in running of passenger trains till the essential safety works are completed and passenger facilities are created.
Obstructing these goods train trial runs as happened yesterday, will push the whole process of making this line fit for passenger trains farther into the future.
ECoR, therefore, appeals to you to enable these goods train trial runs so that the line can be made fit for running passenger trains in the near future.

In a roadblock to the much-awaited Paradip-Haridaspur railway line project, residents of Nuagaon staged ‘rail roko’ during an experimental trial run of a goods train on the route demanding passenger train services on Friday. The goods train was the first to roll out on the soil of the Kendrapara district.
The agitators led by local sarpanch Binati Das halted a coal-laden goods train, which was on way to Rourkela from Paradip, near Nuagaon railway station at 11.30 am. They demanded a written assurance from the railway officials in this regard.
“The railway authorities

acquired our land to build the line for both goods and passenger trains. However, only goods trains are being run on the route due to which we decided to stage protest,” said Madan Behera of Nuagaon.
Nuagaon station manager Babuli Charan Mallick admitted that the goods train was stopped by villagers during the trial run. The protestors also hoisted banners when the train was passing through the station. Chief Public Relations Officer of East Coast Railway Nirakar Das said, due to the protest, the testing of the new railway line has been delayed.
Sources said Railway officials and the district administration are holding discussions with the agitators to resolve the matter. Security has been tightened at Nuagaon and nearby areas to check any untoward incident.
Recently, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had urged the Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to start passenger trains on the railway line.
Construction work of the 82-km long railway line from Haridaspur to the port town of Paradip covering Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts was completed recently. The railway line has brought Kendrapara on the railway map.
The then Railway Minister Nitish Kumar had laid foundation stone of the project on April 4, 1999, near Marshaghai in the district.

Paradip: The construction of Paradip-Haridaspur railway line has been hit with controversy again with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) stopping the project on the basis of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report and various alleged irregularities.
Sources said, one Sashibhushan Pattanayak had filed a petition with the NGT citing various irregularities involved in the construction of the project. On the basis of the plaint, a case (No-55/2018) was registered.
At the behest of the NGT, a four-member team was formed to investigate into the allegations. A doctor of the SCB Medical College and

Hospital in Cuttack, two officials of the State Agriculture and Horticulture Departments and one official from the Odisha State Pollution Control Board formed the team.
The team placed its report August 9. The team has mentioned about several irregularities they noticed in the construction of the railway line.
In the report it has been mentioned that land is being excavated without permission from the concerned department. The reports of the tehsildars of areas in Kendrapara district through which the 40-kilometre long line is being laid lack congruity. Necessary assessment as to how agriculture, soil and lifestyle are going to be affected has also not been carried out.
On the basis of this report, the NGT has decided to impose a fine for carrying excavation without permission on the firm involved in the project.
The 40 kilometres long track is incidentally the first railway line in Kendrapara district. It is worth mentioning, the railway line is 81 kilometres long in total and the government has been trying for its completion since 2009.
Controversies and cost escalation in the Railway Budgets has inordinately delayed the project. The Railway Ministry had announced in July that the track will be operational by December 2019. Even a trial run has already been conducted on portions of the track.
Even as the construction work is being carried out on a war footing, the NGT’s recent order will certainly affect the commissioning of the project.
