According to South Central Railways, on 22 October 2020, the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a PSU under Railway Ministry, completed as well as commissioned 69 kilometres of doubling of the railway line between Uppaluru-Gudivada-Moturu and Gudivada-Machilipatnam, creating the highest such achievement on the Indian Railways network.
The zonal railway further stated that the newly commissioned double line section forms part of the Vijayawada-Gudivada-Bhimavaram-Narsapur, Narsapur-Nidadavolu

and Gudivada-Machilipatnam electrification and doubling project, which is being executed at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore. The plans for this railway project were formalized by Piyush Goyal chaired Railway Ministry and work was entrusted to RVNL. Accordingly, the execution of this railway project has been taken up in different phases.
According to South Central Railways, 124 kilometres out of the total length of 221 kilometres of the project, is now completed while the balance of 97 kilometres is due for completion by mid-2021. The record 69 kilometres commissioning of double rail line was achieved by RVNL by first completing the Gudivada-Machilipatnam section. This was followed by completion of the Uppaluru-Gudivada-Moturu sections. As a result, the complete stretch of 69 kilometres has been opened for traffic in one-go, it said.
This new railway line has huge potential to ignite the economy of Andhra Pradesh’s Central Coastal Belt. The new double rail line is also expected to strengthen rail transport infrastructure for seamless movement of freight as well as passenger traffic on rails and serve public aspirations in several ways, the South Central Railway added.

the project were formalised by the rail ministry and work was entrusted to RVNL, the public sector undertaking of the ministry. Accordingly, the project execution was taken up in different phases. Out of the total length of 221 km of the project, 124 km is now completed and commissioned on Thursday. The balance of 97 km work is due for completion by mid-2021.
This new line holds huge potential to ignite the economy of the central coastal belt of Andhra Pradesh state. Business activity in the entire hinterland of the region, ranging from agriculture to aqua culture will get a big boost with access to various markets becoming more easy and convenient. Passenger train connectivity will also increase to various destinations towards Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Tirupati, etc., in the state.
Long distance travel towards cities as Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata will also becomes more convenient.
Yet another major benefit is, the project will pave way for a reliable alternative rail route to main line between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, which can be used in the event of any disturbance to train services on account of natural calamities like cyclones and heavy rains, the region is prone for.

Vijayawada: Answering two questions in the Rajya Sabha on Friday and Saturday, railway minister Piyush Goyal blamed the Andhra Pradesh government for the delay in completing the doubling and electrification works at Machilipatnam-Vijayawada railway line. While Friday’s question was raised by TDP MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, on Saturday TG Venkatesh raised a question. Venkatesh has recently joined the TDP from BJP.While Goyal admitted that the doubling works had started but could not be completed, on Saturday he gave a list of all railway electrification that is underway in the state of Andhra Pradesh.Sources say that a lot of works intended to be done on the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada line with the state government’s funds have been stalled.“The project is being executed on a 50-50 cost sharing basis between the state government and the ministry of railways. However, the project is getting delayed as AP has not yet deposited their share of around Rs...

306 crore to the railways,” Goyal said. He also added that the completion of the project in time mainly depends on timely deposition of funds by the state government. The expansion of rail network between Vijayawada and the coastal belt is expected to lead to socio-economic development. As it stands now, the Vijayawada-Gudivada-Bhimavaram-Narsapur, Gudivada-Machilipatnam and the Bhimavaram-Nidadavolu railway lines are single and non-electrified sections. These single lines are not catering to the needs of the most populous areas of the state. In 2011-12, then UPA government had in its budget announced Rs 1428.70 crore for the development of these railway sections. Railway officials said that the work of the entire project is planned to be executed in 5 phases and so far 28.66 lakh cubic meters of earthwork has been completed. As many as 369 minor bridges have been completed in all five phases and work in another 54 Bridges is in various stages of progress. One major bridge has been completed in Phase -1 and work for four major bridges in progress. There is a target to complete all works at the section between Vijayawada and Moturu (Phase-1) by October, 2019. Sections between Gudivada and Machilipatnam (Phase-4), Bhimavaram and Narsapur (Phase-5) and Bhimavaram Town and Nidadavolu (Phase-3) are to be completed by January, 2020.Electrification work across the state is underway at Pagidipalli-Nallapadu, Guntakal-Bellary-Hospet, Manmad-Mudkhed-Dhone, Chikjajur-Bellary, Dharmavaram-Pakala, Nandyal-Yerraguntla, Naupada-Gunupur and Tenali-Repalle.“Electrification of Gadwal-Dhone (100 route kilometers) railway line is passing through Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. It is part of Manmad-Mudkhed-Dhone (excluding Umdangar-Mahboobnagar) 783 route kilometers electrification project sanctioned at a cost of Rs 664.50 crore,” Goyal said.

The Vijayawada division of the South Central Railway (SCR) has earned ₹3,389 crore as against the target of ₹2,852 crore, from April to November this year, said Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) R. Dhananjayulu.
Growth in earnings, comparing to the same period last year, was registered at 43%. About 50% growth was registered in freight loading and it was 8.7% in passenger earnings. The Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL) and Kakinada Port, cement and fertilizer companies and the Food Corporation of India, which were loading

coal, fertilizers, cement, food grains and other goods have contributed to the increase in freight loading, the DRM explained at a press conference held here on Thursday.
“This year, the Railways loaded 23.218 million tonnes of goods, and freight loading may touch 34 million tonnes by this financial year end. We are expecting the gross earnings to cross ₹5,000 crore this year.” The DRM said the bypassing facility from Rayanapadu station would begin from December 22 with a few holiday specials. The trains will not touch Vijayawada.
Doubling and electrification of 220 km Vijayawada-Gudivada-Machilipatnam-Bhimavaram and Narsapur, Vijayawada-Gudur third line works and Kotipalli-Narsapur works are under way. Vijayawada-Warangal third line works were sanctioned and would begin soon. Platforms would be increased at Gudur, Rajamahendravaram, Machilipatnam, Nidadavole, Bhimavaram and Narsapuram stations. Construction of Rail Over Bridges (ROBs) at Madhuranagar, Ramavarappadu, Vambay Colony and Gunadala are in different stages. For Capital city Amaravati, connectivity is planned in two phases, Mr. Dhananjayulu explained.
1,500 spy cams planned
A master plan has been prepared to install 1,500 CCTVs in 14 stations in the division.
Besides, focus was being laid on providing passenger waiting spaces, entertainment and wash room facilities in the Vijayawada railway station, he added.
Additional DRMs G. Sumana and Ramaraju were among those present.
