Bengaluru/Dharmapuri: Seven coaches of a Bengaluru-bound train derailed near Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu on Friday after boulders fell on it. All the 2,000-odd passengers are safe and nobody was injured in the incident, the Southern Railway informed.
The Kannur-Bengaluru Express had left from the former, in Kerala, at 6.05 PM on Thursday. "On date (Nov 12), at about 3:50 AM, due to sudden falling of boulders on the running train, coaches of Train No 07390 Kannur-Bengaluru Express derailed between Toppuru - Sivadi of (Bengaluru Salem Section), Bengaluru Division," an official release here said."All 2,348 Passengers on board are safe. No casualty/injury reported," it added.

A team of officials including Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Bengaluru, Shyam Singh, along with a doctor, rushed to the spot immediately with Accident Relief Train (ART) and Medical Equipment Van.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of South Western Railway Aneesh Hegde, who had initially said five coaches have derailed, later clarified that there were seven coaches and not five.He also said that a team led by DRM Salem has also proceeded to the spot along with ART from Erode.
The unaffected rear portion of six coaches, along with passengers, was cleared towards Toppuru and further to Salem. The restoration work is in progress. Boulders were being removed with earthmoving equipment, the official said.
"This will be halted at Toppuru. Fifteen buses are being arranged at Toppuru for the convenience of passengers. Five buses are being arranged at the spot of the accident," he said, adding, water and light refreshment have been arranged at spot.
Senior officials are monitoring the situation closely, Hegde said. Buses have been arranged for transporting passengers to Bengaluru, the officials said, adding tea and snacks were provided to them.
Following the derailment, Bengaluru-Ernakulam Superfast Express, Nagarkoil-Bengaluru Festival Special and Salem-Yesvantpur Express Special trains have been diverted.

BENGALURU: A collision took place between the Mysuru-Mayiladuthurai Express with 1380 passengers onboard and a truck at 8.35 pm on Monday when the truck driver trespassed onto the railway tracks between Karmelaram and Heelalige railway stations. There were no casualties or injuries although traffic along this route came to a standstill.
The train had crossed Karmelaram railway station and was heading in the Hosur direction when the mishap occurred.
General Manager, South Western Railway Zone, Sanjeev Kishore said the driver applied emergency brakes but could not avert the accident.

Railway Manager Shyam Singh who rushed to the spot in an Accident Relief Train with other officials said, "There are no injuries or casualties or any derailment of the train."
He added that as per the present information available the truck was empty.
The truck has been badly damaged with its wheels lying below the loco (engine room) on the railway tracks while the loco has suffered minor damages, pictures shared by passengers reveal.
Chief Public Relations Officer, South Western Railway Aneesh Hegde told TNIE, "The incident occurred between Train no 06232 and a truck at the location referred to technically as Km 188/700. We are still trying to find out how the truck driver entered the railway tracks and drove on it. He is absconding." The train had 20 coaches.
Meanwhile, traffic along this route came to a standstill with three trains affected, the CPRO said. The Mysuru-Tirunelveeli Express was detained at Nayandahalli, the Lokmanya Tilak-Coimbatore Expressat KSR Bengaluru station while the Yesvantpur-Kannur Express was detained at Banaswadi railway station.
Restoration work was underway and it would one and a half hours for it to be completed, the DRM said.
Ambulance and other relief vehicles have rushed to the spot.

South Western Railway is likely to commission electrification of six rail sections in Bengaluru division by September 30.
The sections are: Yelahanka-Devanahalli, Byappanahalli-Banaswadi, Yeshwantpur-Chikkabanavara, Chikkabanavara-Hirehalli, Hirehalli-Tumakuru and Palakkodu-Sivadi (Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu).
Officials said 70% of work has been completed in Yelahanka-Devanahalli and Byappanahalli-Banaswadi sections, 90% in Palakkodu-Sivadi and others are 100%.The electrification will help SWR operate Memu trains on Bengaluru-Tumakuru and Bengaluru-Devanahalli lines.Once electrification between Yelahanka and Devanahalli (23km) is done, airport-bound passengers can travel in Memu trains to and from KIA halt station, located 3.5km away from Bengaluru airport.

IRCTC Special Trains: Indian Railways to run more Special Trains in South India! In a bid to provide a comfortable and convenient journey to passengers, the national transporter will start operations of fully reserved Express special train services between Yesvantpur and Kannur as well as Yesvantpur and Mangaluru. All travelling passengers have been requested to adhere strictly to COVID -19 guidelines issued by state and central governments including wearing masks, frequently sanitizing hands and observing social distance from one another. The ticket fare of these special train services will be normal as that of other Indian Railways Mail/Express trains.

Three trains will restart daily services between Baiyappanahalli and Hosur
The railways will restart five sets of MEMU trains and introduce another set to connect Bengaluru with its satellite towns, including Marikuppam and Hosur, starting Thursday.
