New Delhi, June 13: In a move to keep a check on cooks, and to monitor the quality of food being served, the Indian railways have decided to live-stream video footage of his ‘base kitchens’, a newspaper reported.
Piyush Goyal, rail minister told the newspaper that passengers could go to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)’s official website and watch the live-streaming of the video of  IRCTC’s base kitchens. He added that this initiative by the railways is a part of his drive to improve passenger amenities along with safety.

now, cameras have been installed in IRCTC’s 16 base kitchens,  covering main kitchens such as of Delhi, Mumbai and Bhubaneswar.
The kitchen is also equipped with ‘vision computing’, which is capable of detecting any inconsistency in catering service. For instance, if a cook is not wearing his uniform, the system would automatically send a report to the contractor. If no action is taken within some time even after the report, then another report would be sent to IRCTC authorities.
Recently, the IRCTC’s online portal- www.irctc.co.in launched a beta version of its new user interface which is user-friendly and offers you easier navigation. The website had to be updated as e-ticketing constitutes about two-thirds of total reserved tickets, said railways. However, the final roll-out of the new website with the new interface will happen at a later date.
