PATNA: The track doubling work on Kiul–Gaya route under the Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) is in full swing. The railways has targeted to complete the project by the end of 2020 with an expenditure of Rs 1,235 crore.
ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar said the project is being implemented phase wise. In the first phase, track doubling work between Manpur and Wazirganj, a distance of about 18.5km, was completed. Altogether 39 small and three big bridges have been built on Manpur-Wazirganj route. CPRO said the track doubling would go a long way in developing infrastructure at Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Nawada and other small places located on the Kiul–Gaya route. “It will also reduce traffic load on grand chord section on the Howrah–Delhi route via Gaya Junction,” the CPRO said, adding the 125km long Kiul–Gaya track doubling project was approved by the Railway Board during the 2015-16 fiscal and the actual work began in June 2016.
According to the CPRO, of the 304 small and 32 big bridges, railways has so far built 90 small and four big bridges on the Kiul–Gaya route while work on other bridges is in progress. The railways has also completed earth filling and blanketing work at certain places in the first phase.
In the second phase, track doubling work is in progress between Lakhisarai and Sheikhpura (25.62km). Altogether 10 railway yards are proposed to be built on this route for smooth traffic flow.
